Air inleakage happens when outside air is drawn into a condenser or turbine system that's operating under vacuum. It sounds minor. In practice, it's one of the most common and most overlooked sources of lost efficiency in power generation and industrial steam plants.
How Air Gets In
Any joint, seal, valve packing, or flange operating below atmospheric pressure is a potential entry point. Over time, gaskets degrade, expansion joints fatigue, and low-load operation opens up leak paths that weren't there when the unit was commissioned.

Excess air in the condenser raises backpressure, degrades heat transfer, and forces the vacuum system to work harder.
